Meet Our Pastor and Wife
Scott and Rachel Lidbeck
Forty years is a long time to be away from home. But after years of schooling and 32 years in missions, God has brought us full circle back to Bellingham. It was here at Rome Community Bible Church in 1957 that I first heard that I had a Savior who loved me and died for my sins. Within four years, thanks to the faithfulness of Rome's pastor, Ellis Honaker, our entire family became followers of Christ and a part of the church. Thanks to faithful Sunday school teachers and good Bible teaching, I grew in my knowledge of Christ and appreciation for the work of the local church.
After graduating from Mt. Baker High School, I enrolled in Multnomah School of the Bible in 1967, where I met Rachel Congdon, a Bible professor's daughter. Together we developed a youth ministry in a small suburban Portland church while Rachel earned a diploma from MSB and I graduated with a Bachelor of Theology degree and then a Master of Divinity degree from Western Conservative Baptist Seminary in Portland in 1976.
We then joined the American Missionary Fellowship and served first as area missionaries, working with 12 small community churches in Oregon, providing programs and opportunities to help them enhance their fellowship and outreach. During our ministry with the American Missionary Fellowship, we were also privileged to serve as regional director both in the Northeast, then in the Northwest, and finally as the National Director of Ministry Resources in Villanova, PA. In 2007, we were thrilled to receive the call of pastoring the church that introduced my family to Jesus Christ over 50 years ago! Rachel and I are so thankful to be "home" in the beautiful Northwest, enjoying God's abundant grace so clearly evident in our growing church family. To God be the glory.
The Lord blessed us with five children with professions in missions/music/education, computer programming, a Marine turned railroader, nursing/missions, and a music teacher. We now have 10 grandchildren; 8 boys & 2 girls.
